Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet is a tragic tale of two devoted lovers whose selfless deaths by suicide bring both their families together. It is a play that changes from violence to beauty and from malicious hate to tender love. There is music and dancing, fantasy and bawdry. Romeo and Juliet is a work of art which weaves these impressions togehter and it is true to say it is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays. The quality of its poetry has inspired many modern stores to emulate it inlcuding West Side Story and it is probable that it will continue to do so for many generations to come.
