Homecall

News story image for: Homecall

People who live in East Sussex and have little or no sight may want to know about HOMECALL. http://www.homecall.uk.com/
Through our network of volunteers we offer regular visits to clients once a week, to help with reading or writing letters, for instance.  There are a multitude of ways in which visitors can help our clients to benefit from our service, but we do not offer help with personal care, cooking or housework.
Most clients who are accepted for our service are registered blind or partially sighted.  Please enquire.
All our visitors are carefully selected.  We ask for two written references and they are trained about poor sight to help them to understand our clients needs.  Volunteer training also covers the important issue of client confidentiality.
  • We offer our visitors ongoing support and reimbuse out of pocket expenses.
  • These are examples of how we help our clients.
  • Reading and writing correspondence, newsletters and books
  • Keeping healthy by going for walks together
  • Attending appointments together
  • Keeping in touch with friends and family
  • Help with day to day financial administration
  • Support to attend clubs, societies, pastoral and social events
  • Read instructions and familiarise with new household equipment
  • Occasional shopping trips together
  • Help to access other services, e.g. the local blind society, Social Services or Age Concern
One of the most valued aspects of having a visitor is the opportunity for friendship and support on a regular basis, which helps to increase independence and relieve isolation.
 About Homecall
Homecall was established in February 1985 to recruit, select, train and support volunteer visitors for a home visiting scheme to help the substantially visually impaired maintain their independence and relieve their social isolation by enhancing social inclusion and enabling access to the community.  Home visiting is an important contribution to community care.  We are not a Home Help service.  If you would like more information about either receiving a visitor or becoming a volunteer please telephone:

Homecall is a free service, supported by voluntary donations and bequests, which along with offers of help from volunteers, enable us to expand and develop our service, and are greatly appreciated.
