Local people have been celebrating improvements for pedestrians in Hastings Old Town.
The improvements initially identified from a survey conducted by the Hastings Old Town Residents Association (HOTRA) have been put in to improve road safety for pedestrians and road users.
Changes made as part of the scheme include:
• upgrading the Torfield and Roebuck Street zebra crossing to a ‘Puffin' Pedestrian crossings in June 2007,
• introducing a pedestrian Zone in Courthouse Street and upgrading Zebra crossings to puffin crossings in January 2008, and,
• improvements to the junction of the High Street and Courthouse Street junction and the western footway along the High Street in March 2008.
Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Cabinet Member for Transport & Environment said: "I'm glad to see that the changes to the pedestrian zone and crossings have been well received by local residents. These improvements are one example of the way we are making the roads safer in Hastings for pedestrians and road users alike."
Further improvements have been identified for further phases of work.
