Operation Crackdown - Sussex Police needs you!
With your help Sussex Police are cracking down on abandoned vehicles and anti social driving. Sussex Police are leading a pioneering partnership which employs the latest technology to provide an easy to use facility for Sussex residents to report these vehicles.
It's two main objectives are to reduce the amount of time vehicles remain abandoned and to target persistent bad drivers before they cause an accident.
Anti social driving can range from careless driver behaviour to deliberate activity. It not only affects road safety but also the quality of life in local communities. Abandoned vehicles left for extended periods of time often inspire more crime to take place, such as arson, thieves will strip them of their parts or they are taken and re-abandoned elsewhere. Once what may have been someone's pride and joy becomes a blot on the landscape.
If you see an abandoned vehicle or someone driving in an anti social manner you need to:
• Pull over safely at the side of the road or ask a passenger to write down details
• Note the vehicle's make, model, colour and number plate
• When noting the location, the house numbers and road names to pinpoint where the incident happened where you spotted a potential abandoned vehicle
• Write a brief description of what you witnessed, while it is still fresh in your mind
• If it's an abandoned vehicle, if possible take a photograph of it
