Walk for your health in the heart of High Weald

Published: 15th February 2008 12:16

The Nation's Heart Charity's Walking Event - Sunday 4th May 2008

 British Heart Foundation

If you need inspiration this spring bank holiday weekend why not join other walkers down at Bewl Water Reservoir and take part in the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Bewl Water Walk. Everyone is invited to take part on Sunday 4th May from 9.30am. There is a choice of four distances 3, 6, 9 or 13 miles, catering for everyone's abilities. Joggers and dog's (with owners please) are also welcome! A £3 Walk registration fee includes car parking. This will be the 4th year of running the event and we hope more people will come along, enjoy themselves and raise money for the BHF. Over the past three years we have raised £10,907.57p.

Bewl Water reservoir is the largest stretch of open water in south east England. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, in the heart of the High Weald on the Kent and Sussex border, the reservoir is host to a huge variety of wildlife and one of the area's most popular attractions. If the bluebells are out the views are stunning.

The BHF recognises the need to get people exercising more, knowing that just one hour's activity a day can be beneficial to the heart and body. Walking is top of the list of activities. It can build a healthy heart, develop strong muscles and bones, reduce body fat and may help reduce the risk of some chronic diseases prevalent in later life. In youngsters, it can also help to reduce childhood anxiety and stress and increase opportunities for a child to mix with others and make friends.

By taking part in this family walk, you will be supporting the vital work of BHF - your sponsorship will help the Foundation save and improve the lives of the thousands of men, women and children affected by heart disease.
£25 will help find a cure by funding a doctor for one hour.
£24 will nurse a broken heart funding a BHF nurse to support a patient at home.
£120 will provide a heart scan funding the machine, technician and scan.

Rose Mitson, Walk organiser and chairman of the Tunbridge Wells BHF fundraising branch says;

"To ensure the British Heart Foundation can continue its lifesaving research we need the people of Kent and surrounding areas to put on their walking boots and get sponsored for the BHF. Their own hearts will feel the benefit too! Entries are now being taken, so please sign up and together we can save lives."

Keep you and your family's heart beating by taking part! For more information call 01892 893918 or e-mail east@bhf.org.uk
