Car air fresheners remind drivers to remove valuables

FIVE thousand car air fresheners reminding drivers to remove their SatNavs and other valuables will be distributed across Hastings & St Leonards over the next few months.
The Safer Hastings Partnership has funded the air fresheners so that police officers can distribute them door-to-door in vehicle crime hotspots. One side reads: I Remove My Sat Nav When I Leave My Car, I Do Not Leave Valuables In My Car. The other shows a no SatNav sign in the style of a no smoking sign.
DI Paul Phelps, who chairs the Partnership's Acquisitive Crime Focus Group, said, "Theft from motor vehicles in Hastings & St Leonards has fallen by a massive 51.7% in the last six years [recorded crime 2001-2007], but we want to make sure this trend continues by doing everything we can to ensure that people protect themselves from becoming victims."
