Groundhog Day 2nd February - this event takes its tradition from the German Candlemaas day. The tradition today in the USA is a groundhog a small animal from the squirrel family is watched to see how it emerges from the ground. Depending on how the groundhog emerges predicts whether Spring is early or there would be another 6 weeks of wintery weather.
Winter Olympics - 12th - 28th February- this time the event is hosted in Vancover, Canada. Competitors from over 80 countries compete in more than 15 different events.
Jorvik Viking Festival 13th - 21st February. This is the 25th annual Jorvik Festival held in York. The centre re-opens in February after a £1million refurbishment.
Valentine's Day 14th February is a tradition celebrated by many people around the world. It is a day where lovers express their love for each other by sending cards, presents , flowers and chocolates to each other.
Chinese New Year 14th February - the next Chinese New Year will be the Year of the Tiger.
Pancake Day 16th February it is also known as Shrove Tuesday in the UK and celebrated as Mardi Gras around the world. In Olney Buckinghamshire a pancake race has been held every year since 1445.
Saturday 20th - 21st February - Dog Days at Westonbirt Arboretum, near Tetbury Gloucestershire. Events displays and dog Olympic games . The first regional heat of the Kennel Club's "Scruffs" will also be held, a must day out for dog lovers.
Bath Literature Festival 27th - 7th March for book lovers everywhere.
