Heroes celebrated for Children’s Hospice Week

Superman or supermum? Who would you choose as your hero?
Children and adults are identifying their favourite heroes as part of the UK's biggest awareness and fundraising week for children hospices services.
Children's Hospice Week (15-22 May) is a fun and interactive charity campaign, set to raise the profile of and funds for children's hospices. There are 44 children's hospices across the UK, which provide care and support for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.
Simon Cowell, celebrity Patron of Children's Hospices UK is a big supporter of the week, he says: "Please do whatever you can to support Children's Hospice Week because every single person makes a real difference".
Many children that use local children's hospices have helped to shape the week through an exclusive art initiative called 'This is my hero'. The project tells of everyday heroes through inspiring artwork and life changing stories from over 45 children. These heroes range from family members to footballers, pets to nurses; with artwork auctioned during the week to raise money for local children's hospices. The unique art project has also received wider celebrity support, with hero style masks designed by household names including Holly Willoughby, Jo Brand, Lily Allen and Fern Britton.
Barbara Gelb, Chief Executive of Children's Hospices UK says:
Children's Hospice Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the many children's hospice heroes, and the valuable work of children's hospices up and down the country. Each children's hospice costs an average of £2.5m a year to operate. In this challenging economic climate children's hospices need all the support possible to make sure they can continue their work in making a lifetime of difference to those children and young people who will have shortened lives."

Hero themed activities will be talking place up and down the country all in aid of Children's Hospice Week. Supporters will be given the opportunity to take part in dress up days, parachute jumps, casino nights and cross country bike rides.
