MP to Approach Bus Company over Planned Route Cancellation
| Published: 7th December 2006 18:00 |
The route in question provides an hourly service between the Queens Park Estate and Basildon Hospital, via Billericay High Street and Basildon.
Local MP John Baron has vowed to do what he can to fight the bus company’s plan, but does acknowledge that as a commercial company, he may have limited means to encourage “First” to have a change of heart.
Fears have been raised that removing the service would leave, particularly elderly residents, without access to the town’s shops and healthcare services.
The change to bus services is due to take place from the 2nd January and, according to a bus company spokesman, was based purely on commercial reasons, noting that the 101 route was proving not to be commercially viable.
