The Lady McAdden Breast Screening unit or BUST as it is affectionately called, was opened in 1976 and has come along way in assisting women detecting abnormalities in their breasts.
The unit operates as a charity, with no direct funding from the UK government. It relies upon voluntary donations to continue to provide it services.
The charity's aim is to provide a well woman clinic offering breast screening to an appropriate age group. This is backed up with help and advice to women of any age to be breast aware.
The charity believes that alongside screening, education enables women to see the more general patterns of health issues affecting lives and endeavours to provide vital support where needed.
BUST works in partnership with its clients to help reinforce and shape self-care practices in order to maximise continued well being. Specially trained nurses are on hand to offer assistance and there is also telephone advice available.
