Essex County Fire and Rescue Service
| Published: 25th February 2007 00:36 |

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service does a lot more than just fight fires in your area.
Not only do they respond to a wide range of emergencies 24 hours a day, they are also involved in numerous fire safety and local community initiatives.
"your local stations"
Your local fire station is on the Laindon Road, Billericay just down past Sun Corner. This is a part time (Retained) station and although the fire appliances are always operational within 4 minutes in an emergency, the station is not manned at all times. The nearest full-time fire station is at Broadmayne in Basildon , where is always a Watch on duty.
Fire Stations are public buildings and are always open to the public for help and advice. So if you need some advice, the service encourages you to go into the station and ask for the officer in charge.
"fire station open days"
Every year all the fire stations in Essex have an Open Day during which, the public can come to the stations to get a better idea of exactly what the fire service do. The dates for these open days are advertised locally and can also be found on the services own website
(At the time of wrting the 2007 dates had not been finalised).
"community safety and fire prevention officers"
For general questions and advice please contact:
Basildon and Castle Point Area Headquaters, Argent Way, Southfields, Laindon.
Working here are dedicated Community Safety and Fire Prevention officers. They are available during normal office hours and provide free advice to both the general public and to the local business community. These are the best people to ring if you have a fire related question, need help/ advice for your business, or if you would like some advice about fire safety in your home.
The Community Fire Safety contacts are Brian Hickey and Martin Trevillion, who are involved in a variety of activities, including home safety visits, school visits, fire and road safety, talks to different community groups and special "Firebreak" courses for younger residents of the local areas, to name but a few. For further details, or any other questions, you can contact Brian and Martin on 01268 548804.
FREE HOME FIRE SAFETY VISITS TO ALL MEMEBERS OF THE PUBLIC

We would also draw your attention to the fact that the service offer a completely free home fire safety visit, to all members of the public. This involves your local fire crews visiting your home where they will supply and fit smoke detectors in your house, they will also give advice and check your home for general fire safety.
Remember this service is totally free and could prove invaluable. Once again for further details or to arrange a visit simply call 01268 548804.
FIRE PREVENTION
The Fire prevention officers for the local area are Martin O'Hare, Ian Leggon and Kieran MacDonald. As with the other services provided, their advice is free, although it should be pointed out that the fire service cannot undertake business fire risk assessments. This is the responsibility of the business in question.
