"Pride Teams" to Clean Up This Town

It has been revealed that Basildon Council is to allocate an additional £120,000 towards the cost of tackling the escalating graffiti and litter problem.
Under a new program the council will target the removal of graffiti from well-known hotspots, by sending in a "pride team".
The plan was welcomed by Peter Bowditch, Billericay Town Council chairman, who said "We are aware that the area around the swimming pool in Lake Meadows is covered in graffiti. It can really drag an area down when walls are daubed in graffiti, Nevertheless, it is a shame that this type of anti-social behaviour diverts funds which could be spent elsewhere."
"real impact"
Talking about the new "pride team" plan, Resources cabinet member Councillor Phil Turner said "We already have an army of more than 60 street cleaners working throughout the district to keep the streets free of litter and graffiti. We hope these extra crews can make a real impact on the appearance of our streets and keep them looking clean and tidy."
The council has also set up a new two man anti-graffiti patrol and it is hoped that this roaming team with a proactive approach will help to get the graffiti removed quicker after it has been reported by staff or local residents."
