Railway Crossing Doesn't Bridge the Divide

Despite only recently undergoing repair work, the Billericay railway footbridge is currently a topic of hot debate.
While a number of councillors have praised the operation to repair and return the bridge as a major success, others have labelled the exercise an "unnecessary" project.
"eyesore"
Councillor Terry Gandy explained that he felt a cheaper option would have been to permanently remove the bridge and reinstate the walkway that it sits upon. Me Gandy said "It's no secret that people think it is a terrible eyesore. Why couldn't they do a price comparison between the bridge and something that is in keeping with the town? Lots of people are against it. Aesthetically, it is not very pleasing".
Peter Bowditch, the leader of the town council, nevertheless offered an alternative view, saying that he felt the town needed the bridge between the High Street and Stock Road.
