Discussions have been held between police, business owners and politicians regarding how best to improve the scope and protection provided to the town by its CCTV system.
Councillor Colin Dyer, the town council's representative, said "It is important to stress that we have very good equipment which monitors areas across Billericay. We are working with Basildon District Council, local police and other groups to improve the service."
Meanwhile, the district council's representative added " We are always looking to improve the CCTV system because it is such a powerful tool in crime prevention and detection.
"Billericay cameras record 24 hours a day, but are not monitored for the same length. We are keen to extend the period in which an operator controls the camera and can monitor activity."
