Basildon Pub Watch

Essex Police and Basildon District Council are working together to curb anti-social behaviour and alcohol misuse in Basildon town centre.
Under a new drive to tackle antisocial behaviour, a Pubwatch scheme has been set up, with nine landlords already signed up to the scheme. The initiative was set up by local landlords in conjunction with Essex Police and the local distict council.
Basildon's district commander, Chief Insp Simon Dobinson, said: "This is an excellent example of how the partnership between ourselves, the council and licensed premises work together to tackle alcohol misuse and anti-social behaviour. I fully support this initiative and look forward to seeing the positive feedback from the local community."
The scheme also means that the Essex Police BOBB policy will be adopted by Pubwatch members, with the stern meaning of Behave Or Be Banned.
"Sharp fall in antisocial behaviour"
Councillor Tony Ball, deputy leader of Basildon Council, said: "We fully support this scheme and are encouraging as many of our licensees to sign up as possible. In other areas where Pubwatch is run, incidents of violence and antisocial behaviour have fallen sharply.
"It sends out a tough message to drinkers that violence, drug use and vandalism will not be tolerated. We would urge more publicans to join the scheme to protect themselves and their customers from unacceptable behaviour."
Pubwatch membership is open to any licensed premises.
Anyone interested in setting up a scheme in their area can contact police licensing officer Roger Lowe on 01268 244035 or Amanda Andrews at Basildon District Council on 01268 294436.
