The six seats on Billericay Town Council left vacant after the local elections in May have finally been filled.
Following a shortage of candidates standing in the elections, it was left to the council to ask residents to apply for the remaining position. Nine would-be representatives applied and after a vote by the existing council members on Thursday evening, the following appointments were made:-
Dr Hameed Ud-din, who runs the Oakdin Surgery in Laindon Road, and his wife Ann, who owns the Oakdin Montessori Kindergarten in Perry Street were appointed to the South West ward.
Meanwhile James Shrub and former West ward councillor Moira Moore, along with husband and wife, Paul and Tina Arnold, were appointed to represent the East ward.
Councillor Peter Bowditch, the town's new council chairman welcomed the new councillors and said "We're a very vibrant group here and I hope you enjoy the working parties and projects we're involved in. They drive the success of the council in many ways and we hope they will continue to be successful in the future."
