Flying the flag for England in Europe

Often branded 'The hardest working band' around', unsigned band Soprano have only recently returned home from a 23 gigs tour stretching from Winchester and Kent to Sunderland and Manchester.
Living out of the back of a van has never been their ambition, however they are steadily building a fanbase including music journalists and radio DJs. 'These guys really are some of the best performers and songwriters known to grow up in Essex, and bound to join the line of legends gone before them. Nearly every song on their set is a potential hit'. BBC Essex
Since self-releasing their debut single, ‘Dirty Tricks' on download in November 2007, they have received the award of Essex's Best Newcomer at the Panic awards and were voted unsigned band of the week on XFM by its listeners.
Now Soprano have taken to the road in Europe, playing gigs in Hamburg, where the Beatles first made their name and in the nations capital, Berlin.
The band will then head to Zagreb in Croatia to play on the main stage at the country's popular open air festival ‘Rokaj', playing with the likes of ‘Evan Dando and the Lemonheads'. The band will be releasing a single through DOP records which will only be available in the former Yugoslav countries with a view to something bigger in the future.
Soprano will start their ‘Euro Tour' in this country. The gigs are as follows:
- 25th June - Westcliff - Charity gig - Bar Lambs - £3
- 26th June - London - Clapham Grand - £6adv
- 28th June - Southend - Club NME - Chinnerys's - £5
- 1st July - Hamburg - LOGO
- 2nd July - Berlin - Bang! Bang! Club
- 4-6th July - Zagreb - Rokaj Festival
For Soprano, the rise to popularity and steady success is solely down to the hard work behind the scenes by Liam Tolan (23, Blackmore, Essex) and Phil Cockerton (23, Blackmore, Essex).
When they aren't plotting to invade Europe Liam sings and plays guitar and Phil plays Keyboards in Soprano. The hard work and dedication is a great example to any youngsters striving for similar glories.
Whilst England won't be going to Euro 2008 this summer, Soprano will be taking the mantle and representing England.
