Stock Tower Mill

According to local history books, there have been windmills in Stock since the 13th Century and by the 1840's there were in fact three!
The existing mill, standing in Mill Lane, was completed circa. 1816 and went through many stages of alteratation and repair. Finally in 1993 major renovation and restoration of missing parts was started by the Essex County Council Millwright, with financial help being given by English Heritage.
The group 'Friends of Stock Windmill' was then formed and they organised the opening of the mill to the public.
This Grade II* listed building is back to the form in which it worked in the early part of the twentieth century and is certainly worthy of a visit.
It is open to the public every second Sunday of the month 2pm - 5pm, April to September - Admission is Free
