Graduating?
| Published: 28th July 2008 10:16 |
This is the time of year when university students, who have managed to complete their degrees successfully are attending their graduation and award ceremonies. Many have been anxious about their results for several long weeks of waiting but undergraduates are often very surprised at the outcome. If the work has been put in then during those long March, April and May days then usually the rewards are quite rightly, duly obtained.
In addition many younger students have recently completed their GCSE and "A" level examinations and they are heaving a well deserved sigh of relief as they await their results in mid to late August.
The latest trend is for students at age 16 and 18 to attend a "Prom" which is an end of term ball and banquet. All the girls spend seemingly fortunes on that first really "grown up dress" and the boys hire tuxedos and all the evening dress gear. When I was attending school, it was a disco where we wore the scruffiest clothes that our parents would allow and we tried to sneak in a bottle of beer or cider!
How times have changed!
But some things don't change and the hard, persistent work will give the expected results and sometimes the unexpected when folks achieve better than they could possibly imagine and those end of term functions can really be enjoyed with a clear conscience.
As a Christian, when we work at something worth while then we will also get the due results and the treats at the end. Being a Christian means working diligently with the resources we have been given, just like students need to work diligently with the assets that they have been given both at school and university.
In 2 Timothy2 v6 Paul says:
"The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops"
Similarly if students work hard they will deservedly receive the first share and a fair share of the fruits of their labours.
God Bless
