LOVE FOOD HATE WASTE AT ESSEX FESTIVAL OF FOOD & DRINK

Published: 22nd July 2012 07:12

LOVE FOOD HATE WASTE AT ESSEX FESTIVAL OF FOOD & DRINK

The Love Food Hate Waste Roadshow will be at this year's Essex Festival of Food & Drink, giving inspiration on how to create delicious dishes out of leftovers.

The Essex Festival of Food & Drink takes place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July at Cressing Temple, near Braintree. Now in it's second year, the event will feature over 100 exhibitors, celebrity and local chefs and kids cookery classes.

Essex County Council will be bringing the Love Food Hate Waste Roadshow to both days of the event, offering unique live demonstrations, fantastic free giveaways and lots of advice on making the most of leftovers.

Celebrity chef and writer Richard Fox will be on hand cooking up some tasty treats using ingredients that may otherwise get thrown away. Live demonstrations will take place on both days at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm.

At 3pm on the Sunday, County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Waste & Recycling will be dropping by to help cook up a batch of delicious Cheesy Pancakes.

Cllr Bentley frpm Chelmsford said: "The Essex Festival of Food & Drink is going to be a great event, and I'm really pleased that the Love Food Hate Waste Roadshow will be there. You really can create some delicious dishes using leftovers, so I suggest everyone coming to the festival pays them a visit. Hopefully you will come away with some fantastic ideas which will help you to reduce food waste at home."

7.2 million tonnes of food is thrown away from UK homes every year, which has a serious impact on the environment. Rotting food in landfill produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Wasting food also hits our pockets, as it costs the average family with children around £680 a year, or £50 a month.

The Essex Love Food Hate Waste campaign shows easy and practical ways that we can cut down the amount of food we throw away, including recipes for using up leftovers and handy tips on storage and perfect portions. For more information visit http://www.recycleforessex.co.uk/.
