Conservation Volunteering at Silvermeade Broxbourne in Lee Valley Park
As part of Marriott Hotels and Resorts "Spirit to Serve" our communities program, last Friday 6th November, ten volunteers from three local Marriott Hotels (Hanbury Manor, Cheshunt and Waltham Abbey) joined forces to work with Lee Valley Park by tidying up the ditches on Silvermeade, ripping out fences, chopping down trees and clearing vegetation.
Silvermeade is an important habitat for the Water Voles, Dragonflies and Damselflies including rare species such as the Scare Hairy Dragonfly and White-legged Damsefly. There has been a decline in the number of Water Voles across Britain and at this site they are working hard to help create an environment to encourage a growth in the population. The work to improve the site will help create this vital environment and support the activities of Lee Valley Park. It is located along the side the River Lee at Broxbourne, nearest postcode EN10 6HF.
Chris Robinson, Marriott Hotels said "At Marriott International, we understand the role we play in protecting our environment. We work in partnership with our hotel owners and franchisees to implement sustainable environmental practices, including conservation of natural resources, protection of indigenous wildlife and reducing and recycling waste wherever possible. Our practices reflect the environmental interests and concerns of our guests, associates, business partners and communities".
