New Purpose Built State of the Art Premises for Waltham Abbey Nursery

On Friday 2nd March 2018 Sunshine Day Nursery & Pre-School celebrated moving into their new premises on the new Kingsvale Development in Waltham Abbey. Despite the wintery conditions the event was a huge success.
The Nursery and Pre-School cater for children aged 6 months to school age and can now accommodate 55 children per day and are open for 50 weeks of the year from 7.30am to 6.00pm.

The development was formerly occupied by Knolley’s Nursery, a horticultural centre that closed in 2011 and will not only be the home to the new Nursery, but also 79 new homes, which were built by local housebuilders Hill.

Mrs Julie Holmes Owner of the Nursery said “We are absolutely delighted with the new purpose built Nursery, the building offers so much more for the children in terms of space and light and has finally given us a sense of belonging in a forever home. We are extremely grateful to Mr Howard Green who was instrumental in the planning and Hill for building us a state of the art Nursery”.

When the Nursery first opened its doors back in 1990 in King Harold Academy Mrs Norma Green officiated and the Nursery was delighted to be able to welcome back Norma to cut the Official Ribbon. In attendance were Councillors Mrs. Jeanne Lea representing the District Council and Mrs Ann Mitchell representing the Town Council, and Mr Howard Green Managing Director of Duncan Phillips Estate Agent.

Mr Howard Green reported: “I am extremely pleased to see Sunshine Day Nursery and Pre-School finally relocate from King Harold Academy to their new premises on the Kingsvale Development. After four years it’s good to see Julie, her team, the families and children enjoying such a well-designed purpose built nursery. For my part, arranging the inclusion of the Nursery in the Hill development from the outset, and orchestrating the planning consent for the old Knolleys Nursery, for both social and private housing as well, it has been a most challenging job, but now a very satisfying one".

In addition to the opening celebrations, the Hill team kindly presented a cheque to the Nursery for £1000.00 which will be used to buy play equipment for the children. This donation was the result of fundraising by the Hill project team and the subcontractors.
