Youth Baseball Training off to a Flying Start

Last Saturday, 12th of June witnessed the beginning of what is going to be the best baseball little league in the country!
It was our first training session jointly funded by the Epping Forest District Council and Tubelines (yes! London Underground contractors). The first session was planned for 11.00am and at 10.55am nobody had turned up, however, suddenly one car turned up and three children got out and then another with two and so on and so on. By 11.15am we had 20 enthusiastic 7-12 year olds who could not wait to get onto the field, pick up a glove or bat and start playing!
Our Coaches, Phil Chesterton and Richard Chesterton assisted by volunteers, Luke Foley and David (a BSUK volunteer) did a fantastic job organising and running the 2 x two hour sessions and next Saturday we hope to see the same or an even greater turnout for the training sessions, particularly keen to increase numbers in the second session.

The 11.00am-1.00pm session is for 7-12 year olds and is FREE for the first six weeks and then a £3 per week and the 1.15-3.15pm session is for 13-16 year olds at £3 per week.
Coach Phil: "The learning curve in baseball is huge in just two hours everyone has improved their skills. It is very exciting to be involved in the founding of a junior league team."
I am also considering putting in an application for Waltham Abbey to host the Youth National League Finals in September 2010 so imagine how great that would be for Waltham Abbey and we are currently organising an emergency services baseball event planned for the middle of August with the local police and firemen.
Further in-school and youth club training sessions are being planned, please check out the Essex Arrows website and Facebook for details. Baseball locally is certainly going to be taken to another level this year and the Essex Arrows Baseball Club hopes to have everyone's continued support to help ensure that we become a true community club, bringing everyone together with a common goal!

If you would like to watch or be involved this Saturday 19th June, please turn up at 11.00am to witness the excitement for yourself or please come and support your local National League baseball team the Essex Arrows v the Bracknell Blazers on Sunday 20th June from 12.00pm. It would be great to fill our new seating stands.
Finally, more good news - the Essex Arrows won their first games last Sunday so have now arrived in the National League! We are still in last place and the team we play this Sunday are in second place, (out of 8 teams), however, with enough support and belief, anything is possible and we may even be able to take one of the games on Sunday so hopefully see you there.
Please note the youth training sessions will still be held on Saturday 26th June at the Town Show in the area next to the baseball field as the Archers will be playing that day from 12.00pm.
Best regards
