Flipping good fun!
Back for its seventh year the popular annual Waltham Abbey Pancake Day Races return on Shrove Tuesday 28th February 2017 in Waltham Abbey Town Centre.
Please come along and support this local community traditional annual fun event, join in the races or shout and cheer on the participants.
Races start outside Waltham Abbey Library on pedestrianised Sun Street in Waltham Abbey Town Centre:
- 10.30am - Businesses Races
- 11.00am - Under 5's Races
- 11.45am - Parents & Carers Races
Everyone welcome, no charge to participate or to watch.
All children participating will get a small prize each and the winners will receive a goody bag and a cup to take home with them.
All participants will need to complete an entry form, which will be available on the day, however, it would be really helpful if this could be completed in advance and brought with you to the event.
Click on the link below to download the 2017 Entry Form or pick one up from the Library or Tourist Info Centre:
Entry forms can be emailed to: email@example.com or brought with you on the day. Remember to ensure your child is wearing appropriate footwear and warm clothing. The aprons, hats, frying pans and pancakes will be provided.
The first races will be for local Waltham Abbey Businesses and Shop owners starting at 10.30am. Followed by Under 5's Races starting at 11.00am and finishing with the Mums, Dads and Carers Races at approx 11.45am. Please note children will race with children of a similar age and it is only open to children under the age of 5. If your child wins their heat then they will go through to race again in the final. The number of heats is dependent on the number of children who wish to participate, so not possible to give exact timings.
The Pancake Day Races are organised by the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership in support of the Waltham Abbey Loves Food initiative that supports and promotes the wide variety of places to eat in Waltham Abbey. The event is supported by AboutMyArea/EN9 website and Waltham Abbey Town Council.
Waltham Abbey Town Partnership would like to thank Michele Moore Community Champion from Waltham Abbey Tescos for donating the children's prizes, aprons & hats and pancakes for the races and to Duncan Phillips Estate Agents for sponsoring the winners' cups.
If the weather conditions on the day are wet, icy or snowy, unfortunately, this event will be cancelled due to health and safety reasons, the decision will be made by 9.30am on the day of the races and anyone who has completed a form in advance will be notified.
Apollo Cafe Owner Haci won the Businesses Race in 2014, 2015 and 2016 (photograph above of him in action) - will they be defending their title this year?
