Fire & Rescue Service to draw on children's imagination

Published: 3rd July 2009 20:21

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue logo Children across Devon and Somerset are being given the chance to visit the Service's Special Operations station in Exeter as first prize in an art competition.

The winner will scoop a visit for their class to Service Headquarters, art materials for themselves, and a computer for their school. The competition is also open to children who are educated other than at school.

The winning illustration will be put on the front cover of the Service's Making the Connections single equality scheme summary document.

Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell said: "Here's a chance for a young person to have a picture they have drawn printed on the cover of our new publication, which tells everyone what we are doing to help all the people in our communities and to reach those in the greatest need in an increasingly diverse environment. It is important that we ensure everyone has access to our services, information and opportunities."

Primary school age children are being asked to produce a drawing with the theme ‘People are different.'
Children can take part either in the classroom environment, as part of their education other than at school or during the summer holidays. The closing date for entries is 25 August and winners will be contacted during the week commencing 21 September.

Information about the art competition has been sent to children's services in Somerset, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay. A competition pack and the full version of the single equality scheme, ‘Making the Connections', are also available on the Service website www.dsfire.gov.uk
