Folk Quest 2007

Published: 18th March 2007 15:30

 The Quest Continues .....

Spurred on by the highly successful Folk Music talent search of 2006, Folk Quest 2007 is gearing-up for a comprehensively improved competition that will feature three new categories.

Folk Quest was inaugurated last year by EntsWeb.com in partnership with Saul Canal Festival and BBC Radio Gloucestershire. The mission was to unearth talented folk musicians and to give them their first break in the business.

EntsWeb's Al Best commented, "The overwhelming high quality and diversity of the participating musicians last year made it very difficult for the judges to pick just one overall winner which is why, this year, we are introducing three classes."

The Folk Quest 2007 categories will be:

  • Solo artists
  • Bands & Duos
  • Under 21's

BBC Radio Gloucestershire will again give airtime to the Folk Quest forerunners, on Johnny Coppin's Folk Roots show.

Saul's Music Director, Jo Heatley, has set aside a Sunday afternoon slot where the three winners will gain the invaluable experience of playing on the "big stage" at Saul Canal Festival's Folk on the Water weekend.

The EntsWeb Directory will donate a year's free advertising space to the successful candidates and give, to each of them, featured artist status. All Folk Quest entrants (that have web sites) will also benefit from a free directory entry.

Festival Director, Clive Field, remarked; "I'm delighted that Saul will be involved with Folk Quest again this year. Saul Canal Festival is about so much more that just bringing top professional artistes such as Oysterband and Show of Hands to rural Gloucestershire. Helping the development of new performers is particularly important to us."

Entries will be accepted from April 8th 2007 to May 20th 2007.  Entrants should supply an audio recording of at least three tracks along with a photograph, written promotional material and full contact information. They should also state which class they are entering. The whole pack should be sent to:

Johnny Coppin will chart the progress of Folk Quest 2007 and it can be followed on his BBC Radio Gloucestershire show, ‘Johnny Coppin's Folk Roots'. The show, aired each Sunday afternoon at 3 PM, is also available over the Internet through the BBC's ‘Listen Again' service. http://www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire/local_radio/index.shtml  The winners will be announced by Johnny on May 27th.
