Earlier I wrote about plants which are drought-tolerant.
On a slightly different topic, here are a few examples of perennial plants (those which die down to a basal rosette in autumn and winter but the whole plant remains and re-grows in the following spring).

Anthericum liliago St. Bernard's Lily
Popular in cottage gardens, this perennial produces elegant racemes of small, lily-like white flowers above clumps of grassy leaves in late spring and early summer.
Astericus maritimus Astericus
A woody-based perennial forming a dense carpet or low mound of small, rough-hairy leaves, studded with daisy-like yellow flowerheads from late spring to summer.
Artemisia alba Artemisia
The slender, upright, grey-white stems of this dense, woody-based perennial are clothed in aromatic, filigree, silvery grey foliage, giving a plumose or frothy effect.
Catananche caerulea ‘bicolor' Blue Cupidone
This short-lived perennial forms clumps of grassy leaves. Its slender, erect stems each carry a single white, purple-centred cornflower from midsummer to autumn.
Crepis incana Pink Dandelion
During late summer, beautiful, clear pink flowerheads, on slender-branched stems, rise over the dense grey-hairy leaf rosettes of this lovely dandelion relative.
