Famous for 15 Minutes

With the start of the contraflow and the increasing delays for traffic coming into Gloucester, our local roadworks have been noticed by the media and featured on ITV's local news tonight (Monday). They highlighted the problem of the people who live on the road itself and the disruption it is causing them. With right turns banned, every trip entails a journey up and down the road between the Higham and Over roundabouts. Not just commuting, but trips to school, shops, doctors etc. are all affected.
If you live in the Forest, you don't have to shop in Gloucester. There are pubs, restaurants, gyms, cinemas etc. to the west you can visit. So the commute to and from work is a pain, but we don't live with it 24/7, unlike the residents of Over.
Even worse affected must be the businesses on the road. Yes, there is access to the properties, but who wants to spend an hour in the car if there is another shop or pub that is easier to get to? Rob Keene of Over Farm Market is to be congratulated for finding alternative venues for his produce.
So the delays are getting worse and they are having a severe impact on some people. We cannot wish the jams or the roadworks away, but we can ask that the people managing them do everything possible to minimise them. Having been stopped by a red light at Over roundabout, with no traffic coming the other way, I am not sure that they are.
