Police in Stroud are appealing to the public for help in tracing a male who posed as a utilities worker to trick his way into the home of an 81 year-old woman.
The victim had been returning to her home in Chandos Road, Stroud, at around 7.30pm on Wednesday August 29, when she was approached by a male who claimed to represent the 'water board'.
He was allowed inside the address after stating that he needed to check pipes for contamination.
The male asked the woman to clear cupboards under the sink in her kitchen in order for him to access pipes, but she became suspicious and asked the male for identification.
When he failed to produce any the victim went into her hall and saw a second male. Both men then left the premises.
A short time later the victim discovered that offenders had made a tidy search of several rooms in her home.
The male who first spoke to the victim is described as white, in his 30s with a slim build. He was wearing a brown suit.
The second male was also white and in his 40s. He was wearing a grey suit and a flat cap.
Anyone with information about either of the men is asked to contact Stroud Police on 0845 090 1234, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 529 of August 29.
