Welsh power plant needs 200 contractors

Around 200 contractors will be employed to build a £140 million biomass power plant at Newport in Wales if CEC Generation receives permission to build it.The subsidiary of Welsh Power, CEC Generation, has applied for permission from the Newport City Council to build the 49.9 megawatt plant at a 10 acre brownfields site at the Newport Docks.
The company said in a statement that the plant would run on wood chips and energy crops and will produce enough power to supply 50,000 homes.
It added: "In addition to a boost of up to 200 construction jobs at its peak, Nevis Power will create some 30 permanent management, technical, administration and operational jobs, creating an economic boost for the community."
