Wife calls for increased security for local taxi drivers

Jenni Fletcher's husband, Derek Fletcher, was throttled and set on fire in his taxi on Stoneham Lane in May.
Jenni is now backing plans for all taxi passengers to be registered. The LIcensed Private Hire Car Association is proposing the creation of a database of all taxi and private hire customers.
Steve Wright, the Association's Chariman, said: "We are looking at ways to register customers so they can identify themselves to the driver using a phone number or PIN.
Safe travel works for drivers as well as passengers."
Derek Fletcher was working for Eastleigh Happy Cabs when the attack happened in the early hours of the morning. He has made a "miraculous" recovery, but his wife has said that he is unlikely to want to return to his job once he has fully recovered. He is still being treated as an ouptatient at a burns unit.
The attacker has still not been caught.
