Meals on Wheels

The borough's meals on wheels service needs urgent help.
Delivering some 250 meals every day Monday to Friday from Chandler's Ford in the north to Hamble in the south, the service provides an important lifeline to many of the borough's elderly residents.
And it relies on volunteer drivers to get the meals through.
Jean McDonald, the borough's meals on wheels organiser commented "Some of our volunteers have been with us for many many years and their support is invaluable. But we do need to maintain a regular service and need more people to help us. Although many volunteers do work more than one day a week we urgently need and would be very pleased to welcome drivers or non-drivers for just a couple of hours on one day a week."
Volunteers work in teams of two and collect the meals from the kitchens in Eastleigh or if delivering in the southern part of the borough from kitchens in Bursledon. A mileage allowance is paid to the drivers.
If anybody feels they are able to assist for some of the summer weeks or for a longer term, please contact Jean on 023 8068 8316.
