Lights Out Hampshire

Power FM and Ocean FM have been set their greenest challenge yet. They are inviting the people of Hampshire to turn their lights off as part of Green Month in March. ......But they need your help to do it!
On Saturday March 29, 2008 between 8pm and 9pm "Lights Out Hampshire" will see darkness fall over the county by the people of Hampshire switching off all non-essential lights and appliances. Power FM and Ocean FM are pioneering this iconic event which will coincide with global Earth Hour - an event which will encourage cities around the globe to reduce their carbon emissions. We'd like you to pledge to turn your lights out for the hour and be part of this worthwhile campaign to create a more environmentally sound Hampshire.
"Lights out Hampshire" is a campaign that aims to reduce greenhouse emissions and demonstrate how a few small actions from businesses, schools and individuals can literally make the world of difference. Almost half of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions, the main greenhouse gas which causes climate change, actually come from the things we do every day. Things like leaving lights on unnecessarily or overfilling the kettle all waste energy and result in needless carbon dioxide emissions.
Power FM and Ocean FM have already got the support of the National Grid, without which "Lights Out Hampshire" would not be possible. Gcap radio stations across the GCap Media One Network are taking part, so Lights Out Hampshire will have a positive impact on not only our county, but the whole of the UK.
So far the response has been fantastic and the following buildings have agreed to turn their lights and switch on their support for actions that can help make a difference in the most significant challenge facing the world today. Businesses include Spinnaker Tower (who are going green for the month of March) Southampton Guildhall, Southampton Civic Centre, Clock Tower, Skandia, West Quay Shopping Centre, Winchester Cathedral, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Guildhall and Civic Centre
