Eastleigh's ready for its biggest ever 10K road race with 1800 eager race entrants taking part in the twenty-fourth B&Q Eastleigh 10K Road Race - and this year the runners will be cheered on and supported by Athens Olympic Silver Medallist, Leon Taylor.
Organised by Eastleigh Borough Council and sponsored by B&Q plc, runners from throughout the UK will be running for over £2800 worth of prizes in the event that will be held on Sunday 16 March at the early start time of 10am around the streets of Eastleigh.
Race Organiser, Steve Collins says, "There's been another fantastic response to this year's race. We were so oversubscribed we actually closed the race on 7 February. Many top class runners will set off with hundreds of fun runners, many of whom will be raising money for charity."
There may be some disruption to traffic, with Passfield Avenue being closed between 9.45am and 11.15am. There will also be a rolling road closure as the runners' lead car go along the new route which is Passfield Avenue, Woodside Avenue, Shakespeare Road, Twyford Road, Woodside Avenue, back along Passfield Avenue, Derby Road, Desborough Road, Chestnut Avenue and Passfield Avenue, before finishing in Fleming Park.
The popular 2K Fun Runs are also nearly full with over 700 local children taking part in the two races, 9-12 year olds at 12.15pm and 5-8 year olds at 12.45pm.
