Radio Haslar Hospital Broadcasting

Radio Haslar is a charity organisation that broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year to the patients and staff in the Gosport War Memorial and now can be heard online too at http://www.radiohaslar.co.uk/.
Radio Haslar began in 1993 broadcasting solely to the Royal Hospital Haslar, then in 1996 to the War Memorial becoming a network. The station was able to broadcast 2 different shows at the same time to cater for the different audience in Haslar and the War Memorial!
Sadly, due to the closure of Haslar Hospital, Radio Haslar had to find a new home to continue its hard work. The final show ever to be broadcast to Haslar was aired between 9am and 12pm on 21st February 2009, hosted by Chairman Chris Pearce and featured guests and members from past and present.
Radio Haslar's new home is on the first floor at Bury House in Thorngate Halls in Gosport. The volunteers at the station built the new studios, office, music library and ‘Racks Room' (which houses the transmission equipment) by themselves, only contracting in help from a local carpet fitter and an aerial installer! The days of climbing out of a window and onto the roof to fix the aerial are long gone!
