Ashcroft Arts Centre

Ashcroft Arts Centre is a Hampshire County Council Arts Centre is managed by the Arts Service, part of the Recreation and Heritage department.

In addition to a varied programme of professional theatre, music, comedy, film, dance and visual arts, there are many arts activities workshops available for all ages.

The facilities at the Centre include:

  • 150 seat theatre/cinema a No Smoking policy.
  • comfortable, fully licenced bar serving a range of beers, wines and spirits
  • dance/music studio (140 seats / 190 standing)
  • gallery
  • on site parking with two access bays

We are open 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and any evening when there is an event, for information and ticket sales.

The Ashcroft is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Call to reserve a priority space for all performances. Induction loop for those with hearing difficulties. Accessible toilet and baby changing facilities are available.

Strictly Dance Evening Salsa

Wednesday 22nd October 7.30pm tickets £5

Led by our tutor Carrie-Anne Sait, enjoy an hour long lesson followed by the opportunity to practice on the dance floor.  Great fun and no experience is necessary.

Follow Me

Thursday 23 October 7.30pm Tickets £12, £11 concessions and £10 members

She was the last woman in England to be hanged.  He was the man that hanged her.  Follow Me is a dramatisation of the final moments of the beautiful party girl, Ruth Ellis, famed for the cold unrepented murder of her lover...and for being the last woman in Britain to be hanged.

She was executed by Britain's Cheif Executioner, Albert Pierre-point, feted for dispatching over 200 Nazi was criminals.  Pierrepoint became the acknowledged leader in his field and was unwaverinly engaged to "take care" of his country's most notorius killers. 

Follow Me is an utterly fascinating tale about the British way of life...and death.

Lucy Kaplansky

Friday 24th October 7.30pm Tickets £12, £11 concessions, £10 members

She started out singing in Chicargo bars and then, barely out of school, Kaplansky took off the New York City.  The New York Times said it was "easy to predict stardom for her" but then Lucy dropped it all to pursue a doctorate in Psychology.  Despite being in private practice, Lucy was often pulled back into the studio, singing on albums such as Suzanne Vega's Pretty in Pink and Nanci Griffith's The Firm.  Then Lucy went into the studio with Shawn Colvin, it all came together and she hasn't looked back since.

Chris Cox "Control Freak"

Saturday 25th October 7.30 pm tickets £12, £11 concessions, £10 members

BBC Radio 1's resident magician Chris Cox fuses magic and psychology to create a unique interactive theatrical experience.  Fresh from an award winning, 5 star sell out Edinbugh Fringe and debut West End Show, the mind reader who says he can't read minds will attempt to prove that he can make you think what he wants you to think, in his hillarious and jaw dropping amazing show.

The Selfish Giant

Tuesday 28th October 2.30pm Tickets £6.50, £22 family ticket.

Suitable for children aged 4+.  Oscar Wilde's short story "The Selfish Giant" is one if the most beautiful and moving tales ever written.  By following te giant's story, we are all reminded of the value of generosity.

The show begins with a light hearted rehearsal into thier parts while the rest of the audience is taught the choruses of four songs.  There is a short break and then the show begins.

Build Your Own Giant

Wednesday 29th October 10am -12 noon.  Cost £9

Suitable for age 2-5 (children must be accompanied by a non paying adult)

Inspired by The Selfish Giant performance, now is your chance to build your own giant - although they don't have to be selfish!  Working alongside Clare Jefferson, this workshop offers you and your adult helper the chance to construct your own giant - who will then need a good home at the end of the session.

Create Your Fairy Tale Model

Wednesday 29th October 1pm - 4pm Cost £9.50

Suitable for children 7 -11 years

Inspired by the Grimm World performance this half term, now is your chance to create and build your very own fairy tale character in 3D.  Working alongside Clare Jefferson, this workshop offers you the chance to use a range of craft skills.  Don't forget your character will be going home with you so make sure you reserve a space on the mantlepiece!

Grimm World

Thursday 30th October 2.30pm tickets 6.50, £22 family ticket.

Suitable for age 7+

Fresh from the recent touring success of Message in a Bottle and already crowned 'the Tim Burton of children's Theatre', director Gavin Grimm who have to get their publisher before the French army capture them and their precious stories!

Meeting characters from th estories themselves who help, or hinder, them along thier way, it's a race against time!  Both enchanting and funny... with a dash of darkness.

David Mamet's Oleanna

Thursday 6th November 7.30pm tickets £12, £11 concessions £10 members

An unconventional university professor tries to assist a struggling student who has come to him for help.  Behind closed doors, the meeting goes badly and the fallout is catastrophic..

Oleanna is ture theatrical dynamite that will challenge everyone.  Arguements will erupt in the bar.  Fisticufts in the aisles!  But, whoever you side with, it might be safer just to say you're wrong!
