Police are appealing for witnesses to help them piece together the last movements of a man who died after leaving a pub near Gosport on Monday night (September 15).
The body of 45-year-old Steven Lees was found by a member of the public, washed up on the foreshore near Quay Lane Boatyard, just a short way up from the Jolly Roger pub where he had spent the evening.
It is known the Mr Lees, who is from Gosport , returned to his dinghy and launched it from near the Hardway Sailing Club, intending to return to his Halmatic motor cruiser moored nearby.
His body was located at 8.45 yesterday morning, and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital. A post mortem examination is due to take course within the next couple of days.
PC Bob Chambers, from the Marine Support Unit, said: "All we know is that he was a local at the pub and had spent the evening there. He left the pub at around 10.15pm to take his dinghy back to his launch, and was not seen again until his body was found washed up yesterday morning.
"We are looking at this as a very tragic accident and need witnesses to come forward and help us establish exactly what has happened."
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Marine Support Unit on 023 80 236753.
