Gosport Goes For Gold in Britain in Bloom 2012

Organised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), Britain in Bloom is one of Europe's largest horticultural campaigns, involving over a thousand communities each year and creating lasting improvements to local environments for the benefit of residents, workers and visitors.

Currently at Silver Gilt status in South & South East in Bloom, Gosport has been identified as one of the best cared for communities in the UK and we have been presented with a fantastic opportunity to promote our area, our past projects and future developments in Britain in Bloom 2012.

Gosport's parks and open spaces will be home to a plethora of red, white and blue blooms throughout the summer months this year to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics.  These will include Falkland Veterans and Queens Jubilee Carpet Bedding at Falkland Gardens and an Olympic display at Timespace.

RHS Britain in Bloom UK judges tour the UK to assess the achievements of the finalists during the Judging Fortnight of 30th July to 10th August so there is plenty of time for all members of the community to become involved.

To kick off this year's Britain in Bloom campaign, the RHS are inviting all ‘in Bloom' and It's Your Neighbourhood groups, as well as RHS Affiliated Societies and schools registered with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, to sow wildflowers as part of a nationwide ‘in Bloom' celebration to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  To do this the RHS are offering each group one free pack of annual wildflower seeds (covering an area of 10m²) to sow at your launch event.  The focal point of this launch will be 14th to 15th April 2012.  The closing date for applications is 12th March 2012.

The RHS It's Your Neighbourhood campaign supports local community groups in cleaning and greening up their immediate and local environment and what better year to start than this most exciting very British year of celebrations.
