Every year thousands of people run marathons in an effort to raise money for charities, but Mark Greenfield from Fareham has decided to attempt a race that is a little out of the ordinary.
Mark has decided to undertake the 2013 Marathon Des Sables with his friend Keith ambden.
The race is a 150 mile, six day trek across the Sahara Desert in Morocco, with temperatures ranging from 50 degrees Celsius in the day and 3 degrees at night.
As part of their exploits they will be raising money for CLIC Sargent, a charity which supports children with cancer.
Mark said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we have agreed that we must do this not only for self fulfilment but also to raise money and awareness for a great cause.
"CLIC Sargent is a small charity but it's growing quickly. I am quite new to charity work but I know that by raising money the charity will be able to do great work not only for the children, but also their families."
