Gosport Borough have achieved promotion to the Southern League Premier Division after an enthralling extra-time 3-1 victory away to Poole Town yesterday.
Evergreen striker Steve Claridge came off the bench late on to snatch an injury-time equaliser to cancel out Marvin Brookes' opener after 35 minutes, sending the thrilling play-off finale into an added 30 minutes.
Leading scorer this term Justin Bennett then put the visiting Borough into the ascendancy for the first time in the game, before his veteran partner Claridge sealed the tie and promotion for Alex Pike's side.
Gosport join Bognor Regis Town, AFC Portchester, and Portsmouth Ladies in sides clinching promotion this season in and around the Portsmouth area, with Havant & Waterlooville, Hayling United, and Horndean also celebrating their respective league survival this term, and United Services Portsmouth picking up silverware, too.
The victory draws to an end a sublime season in the Pompey non-league and grass roots football scene.
