What is a Child Contact Centre ?
A Child Contact Centre is a neutral meeting place where children can meet up with the parent they no longer live with
What is on offer to families ?
We offer a safe, friendly, welcoming and unthreatening environment with supported (but not Supervised) contact
We have ...
toys, games and refreshments for the children and their parents to share. For very young children we ask the parents to bring their own baby milk and nappies
The contact session is for the enjoyment of the child or children and the parent they no longer live with, but there are always volunteers on hand to answer any queries and ease the way if necessary
Most children feel attached to both their parents and want then to be happy. When they find out their family life is going to change because either their Mum or their Dad is going away and will no longer be living at home, they can experience feelings of :-
Insecurity ... will I have to go away too ?
Anger ... why has this happened to me ?
Guilt ... it's my fault Mum and Dad have split up ...
Sadness ... I love my Mum and Dad - why can't things be like they used to be ?
Confusion ... where will I be going next Saturday ?
Anxiety ... who is going to be there - and will they speak to me ?
Helplessness ... nobody ever asks me how I feel - or how I think ...
Spending time with their non-resident parent, at a Child Contact Centre, can help ease some of the many worries and anxieties children have and can help them adjust to their new way of life.
The volunteers at the Havant Borough Child Contact Centres are committed to enabling this to happen, by creating a comfortable and safe environment, when there is no alternative.
