Wightlink’s Purchasing Manager Roy Shawyer is celebrating working for the company for 40 years.
He joined the Portsmouth-based company in 1977 after leaving the Army. During his time in the Royal Artillery, Roy served in Germany and Northern Ireland. He started at Wightlink as a labourer, then an electrician’s mate and carpenter’s mate before moving to the stores. He became Purchasing Manager in 2008.
“Roy has an encyclopaedic knowledge of everything a busy ferry company needs to carry almost 4.6 million people across the Solent 364 days a year,” says Chief Executive Keith Greenfield. “Wightlink relies on him to keep the ships sailing and we are all grateful for his hard work over the last 40 years.
Roy was born in Leigh Park and now lives in North End. “We have everything in our stores from paper cups to engines and I have to make sure we don’t run out of anything vital. I’ve enjoyed working for Wightlink over the years because every day is different,” he says.
