Child-Friendly Charlie's Opens in Drayton

Published: 3rd February 2008 17:27

A new cafe is opening in Drayton this week and judging by the amount of enquiries being made during the refit, it's going to be a welcome addition to the community.

Charlie's at 240 Havant Road, will be providing snacks, such as sandwiches and jacket potatoes, along with a daily homemade soup and special. Open seven days a week from 8.45 until 4pm, Charlie's will also be serving Roast dinner on Sundays.

Owner  Kerry Fry, from Bedhampton, says, "I adore working with food and cook all the time at home. My whole family are foodies."

Working with experienced chef, Jackie, Kerry wants to provide UK ingredients where possible and will be sourcing her fruit and vegetables from Ushers, also in Havant Road. She says, "I love to be able to work with good, fresh ingredients."

Kerry, who runs the business with her husband Mike, has named the cafe after their daughter who, at 3 years old, is delighted to have "her own" cafe. Being a mum herself means that Kerry understands the frustration some mums feel when trying to find somewhere to take their young children. Kerry said, "There will be space for buggies, highchairs, as well as crayons and paper to keep children busy. They will even get a lollypop when they leave!"

Good luck to Kerry, Mike and Jackie with Charlie's. Welcome to the PO6 community!

My 3 year old son; Jonathan, saw the builders working on this and asked 'What's that Daddy?' everytime we walked or drove past. From the minute I told him, that was it! Everyday I was constantly bombarded with;- a casse! (his own word for a cafe), is it open yet Daddy?!' We went in on the opening day and have been in nearly every other day since for coffee/teas/toasted teacakes etc. A great place; something that Drayton needed, especially being very child friendly, spacioud and big enough to get a pushchair in and park it out of the way. The staff are very friendly and talkative. Sunday dinners are excellent. I wish Kerry and her team all the best for her new venture. Highly recommended.
