Portsmouth Teenagers Urged to Get Free Booster Vaccination

Portsmouth teenagers are urged to get their free booster vaccination, which protects them from dangerous diseases.

All schools are issuing letters to every parent of year eight and nine students, reminding them about the vaccination with their local GP. 

The vaccination provides additional protection and prevents residents from unwanted diseases; tetanus, diphtheria and polio. 

At the same appointment, healthcare staff will check the child's vaccination status, and offer outstanding vaccinations which will protect them against other menacing diseases. 

The vaccination is not compulsory, but healthcare staff are keen for as many teenagers as possible to get their booster.

Dawn Saunders, Consultant in Public Health said:  "It provides the final doses of diphtheria, tetanus and polio of the routine vaccination programme and without them, full protection against these diseases will not be achieved.  This means that children will remain at risk of these diseases in the future."

"So when you receive the letter, be sure to pop in or call your local GP and book an appointment for your child.  It won't take long, and it will protect against several diseases."
