Conan Doyle Sensory Exhibition at Central Library

Published: 12th October 2017 17:58

Central library has a Conan Doyle sensory exhibition available for groups who are visually impaired, blind, or may have a learning difficulty or disability and would like to find out more about Conan Doyle and the Conan Doyle Collection.

The exhibition was developed with the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) and the University of Portsmouth with Heritage Lottery Funding and will go on tour across Hampshire.

The exhibition comprises of 16 audio described tactile panels and two handling boxes including a bust of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with silicone skin and implanted hair and 3D printed model Reichenbach Falls from the Sherlock Holmes story The Final Problem with Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty balancing on the cliff.  The cliff is cold to the touch while the bodies of both Sherlock and Moriarty are warm to touch.

Cllr Linda Symes, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "We're really proud to have this sensory exhibition as it allows us to share the Conan Doyle collection with a wider audience and give people with visual impairment the chance to participate and enjoy the collection."
