Portsmouth Business School is hosting a Hot Topic Seminar on 29th February from 6pm until 8pm.

Maximising the use of what has already been bought, before spending new money, is causing Asset Management to rise in prominence in the current credit crunch. Previous Hot Topic Seminars have covered ways to achieve this for assets of finance, intellect, people and materials and property.

Andy Painting is Chief Engineer for Portsmouth Naval Base as the Design/Engineering Authority, on behalf of the MOD, for the dockyard infrastructure and all assets such as caissons, cranes, locks, docks, etc. He is responsible for the development of operational and maintenance strategies which he achieves by monitoring current and influencing the future infrastructure requirements of the Naval Base.

Andy will cover:

  • An introduction to the dockyard and the assets there
  • How he tries to maximise their use
  • His new ideas on intelligent monitoring systems

Ashraf Labib is Professor of Asset Management at Portsmouth Business School.  Previously he worked at UMIST in Mechanical, Aerospace and Manufacturing Engineering. He holds a PhD from University of Birmingham, an MBA from the American University in Cairo and is a Chartered Engineer.  His interest is in aids to decision making.

Ashraf will cover:

  • Alternative opportunities to make the best use of your assets
  • The DMG strategy
  • An example of its use in the maintenance of rolling stock in the Railway Industry

This seminar will focus on optimising the productivity of equipment and will be of most interest to those working in finance, engineering and facilities management.
