A Roof Over Their Heads

Alabare is a charity committed to helping the most vulnerable people achieve meaningful and fulfilling lives. In addition to their many projects, Alabare is now the leading the way in providing dedicated housing and support for armed forces' veterans. "One moment they're on the frontline, fighting for their country, the next their lives have fallen apart. They are the veterans who can't adjust to civillian life and in some cases end up on the streets." Now 15 hostels especially for homeless veterans are to open over the next few years. Specialist teams give practical and emotional help to overcome their problems. In the Portsmouth area they are hoping to support eight veterans at any one time. The Veterans' Outreach Support Service reports that there are at least 30 veterans in the local area in need of help with finances or housing. As well as raising much needed funds for Alabare, Shep is hoping the concert at St. Peter's Theatre will draw attention to the plight of this much loved and much needed performance space. The owners of the building intend closing the theatre at the end of January 2013, which has caused great consternation locally, and also within the theatre community of Portsmouth. Further details are available http://stpeterstheatre.webs.com/
The concert is on Sunday 17th June, starting at 8:00pm. Tickets can be purchased from the Box Office www.southseaboxoffice.co.uk or telephone 0845 293 9350. St. Peter's Theatre is in Fraser Road, Southsea, PO5 1EE
