SYMONDS SABRES DO IT AGAIN

Published: 17th July 2008 12:26

Josh Amis and Ben Griffiths named as joint Men of the Match

Peter Symonds Flag Football squad, the Sabres have done it again with a 39-19 win against the National Champions, the Chichester Sharks!

Before the game began the Sharks, who turned up short of two players had to beg, borrow and steal two of the Sabres team to join them for the first half (Ray Tellis and Murphy Ng).
The match then started strongly with an even score early on in the game after a touchdown for the Sabres by Josh Amis and one for the Sharks by Ray Tellis.
As the game developed the Sabres dominated possession of the ball, due in part to two excellent interceptions by Ben Griffiths.
A great quarterback performance by George Sedikides saw the touchdowns pour in and at the end of the first half the Sabres led the National Champs 25-6.
(It must be noted that the Sabres players lent to the Sharks in the first half did a great job too, not only scoring 6 points for them but also doing some excellent defensive work by Murphy Ng.)

The second half saw the Sharks borrow Ben Griffiths and Pete Dabbs for their side, much to the relief of the Sharks quarterback who had been intercepted twice by Ben in the first half!
The confident Sabres continued to play well with two further touchdowns, one of which scored by Gareth Phillips, his third of the game but a dubious out of bounds call, denied Gareth of his fourth touchdown.
The national champions came back stronger in the second half with two touchdowns, one scored by a slightly confused Ben Griffiths, who didnt even know he was in the end-zone! Despite the dubious call and the Sharks being allowed an extra time-out for sympathy reasons, the Sabres still outscored the Sharks in the second half 14-13.

What else is there to say about that but a fantastic result with some excellent displays of Flag Football, says Coach Katie Taylor.

This game showed an outstanding performance by all the players, with a huge improvement since their last game.

We played excellently on both sides of the ball and demonstrated a lot more of the potential we have as a team.

Thanks once again to the Chichester Sharks team for another enjoyable evening. Roll on September!
