British Colleges (BCS) Mens Hockey Knockout Cup Final PSC 8 v Holy Cross 0 Peter Symonds mens hockey team are National Champions for the second time having beaten Holy Cross Sixth Form College 8-0 in the British Colleges Mens Hockey Knockout Cup Final. The Symonds squad retain their title and the cup after wins this season against QMC, Burgate, Worcester, Exeter & most recently Holy Cross.
Pre-match spirits were high and Symonds soon capitalised on a well-worked short corner routine with Nathan Honeycombe firing home the opener. Symonds didnt let up and quickly established a 2 goal cushion through a reverse stick cracker from Will Barrett. Holy Cross barely had an attack and when they did venture forward any threat was quickly snuffed out by Symonds solid back line. Key player for Holy Cross, Flanagan, was becoming increasingly frustrated by his teams ineptitude and it looked like a card was just around the corner when half time came.
Inspirational words from Symonds coach, Steve Perkins, made sure Symonds didnt start the second half complacent and they soon extended their lead with another short corner routine giving George Lambert his first goal of the afternoon. Then came the best of the eight, started and finished by Will Turner after a six man move - Turner to Langridge to Hatherley to Ottridge to Lambert to Turner again - GOAL!
After that Holy Cross had no reply apart from Flanagan giving more back chat to the umpire who this time responded with a yellow card. With Flanagan off the pitch, Symonds stormed home with four more goals from Honeycombe, Lambert, Ottridge and a fine solo effort from Conrad Langridge.
After collecting the trophy again for the Symonds champions, skipper Alex Richardson summed up the day and indeed the entire season - Winning feels good!
