Recycle, re-use and reduce from birth

The recycle, re-use and reduce message is being promoted from an early age, thanks to the work of Hertsmere Borough Council.
The council set up a stand between 10am and midday at the National Childcare Trust (NCT) nearly new sale at Bushey Hall School on Saturday 19 May to promote real nappies and the council's cashback scheme.
Gemma Godfrey, Community Waste Officer, said: "It was a really good event and I had a lot of interest from pregnant women and their partners in real nappies and our £40 cashback scheme.
"I was able to hand out the real nappy information pack, with the cashback form, as well as give demonstrations on how real nappies work. I think people have an outdated view of real nappies when in actual fact they're as user friendly as disposables - they also come in a variety of styles and colours to suit even the most fashionable babies!
"The event was also a fantastic way to help the environment and get baby items cheaper. The NCT sales reduce the amount of baby items thrown out because once a baby has outgrown their toys, clothes and other equipment, it can be sold on to be used by another family."
The next NCT nearly new sales event at the Bushey Hall School is taking place on 13 October.
